A political storm broke out in the national capital on Wednesday when Parvesh Verma handed over Rs 1,100 to women in the New Delhi constituency, with AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal calling him a “traitor”. Delhi’s CM Atishi called for Verma’s immediate arrest.
Kejriwal, AAP candidate from Delhi Assembly constituency, claimed that Verma was the BJP’s chief ministerial face and asked Delhiites if they wanted such a CM.
“These people give Rs 1,100 to each voter and ask them to vote for their party. Are they helping the needy or openly buying votes? Your father must be ashamed of a traitor son like you,” the former CM posted on X.
Parvesh Verma responded to Arvind Kejriwal and said that her initiative was to provide women with Rs 1,100 in financial aid through Rashtriya Swabhiman, an organization set up by her father.
He said unlike Kejriwal, he was offering “genuine assistance” to people instead of distributing alcohol.
“My father Dr Sahib Singh Verma always helped people. I am also helping people. Rural Delhi will never forgive Kejriwal,” he said.
The BJP leader further said, “In the last 11 days, I have seen the agony of women, something Kejriwal had not seen in 11 years. They were molested, I saw their pain. So I decided that we will give them Rs 1,100 for At least not I am distributing liquor like Kejriwal did. I am happy to be able to help people.”
Verma, who could be fielded by the BJP against Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency, said Rashtriya Swabhiman has been involved in helping people and rebuilding two earthquake-devastated villages in Gujarat and four villages in Odisha that were destroyed by a cyclone
The organization also spent millions of rupees saving people’s lives during the pandemic, providing oxygen concentrators and opening a care center in west Delhi, Verma added.
