The Punjab Department of Interior published a list of proscribed organizations on Friday and urged citizens not to give charity to these non -registered and prohibited beneficial organizations.
The process of maintaining a list of proscribing organizations began on August 14, 2001, when the State prohibited LASHKAR-E-JHANGVI and SIPAH-I-mahammad Pakistan. On January 14, 2002, the Government prohibited Jaish-e-Mohammad, Lashkar-E-Taiba, Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan, Tehreek-i-Islami and Tehreek-I-Nifaz Shariat-i-Mohammadi.
“Providing any type of assistance to prohibited organizations is a crime under the 1997 Anti -Terrorism Law,” said Punjab government statement.
He added that those who help prohibited organizations involved in terrorism and antistatal activities would be punished by law.
“The registration with the Punjab Charity Commission is mandatory for beneficial organizations in Punjab,” the statement continued.
Citizens must grant their zakat, charity and donations only to organizations registered in the Punjab Charity Commission, said the Punjab government, adding that all registered organizations can be verified through the QR Code in its certificates.
“Citizens must ensure that their assistance is reaching the legitimate beneficiaries instead of the terrorists,” he said, added that the details of the organizations registered on the website of the Charity Commission can be accessed: www.charitycommissions.punjab.gov.pk
The statement said that complaints for organizations that work for fraud, terrorism, antiestatal activities and personal gains may appear to the Punjab Hogar Department, inform the collection of funds from organizations prohibited to the toll number 0800-11111 or aid line numbers 042-99214871 and 042-99214872.
