A man threw acid at his wife and two children during a domestic dispute on Sunday in the Fullan Jalilabad district, according to a first information report (FIR) presented on Monday.
The FIR was filed Monday morning by Farhan Ikhlaq, the victim’s brother, Khadija Bano, at the Jalilabad police station.
Ikhlaq said in the FIR that he was in his residence in the jalilabad district of Finen at 8:45 pm when his grandson informed him that someone had thrown acid at his sister Khadija Bano and her two children.
He hastened to his sister’s house along with his brother, Nasir Iqbal. Upon arriving there, he saw that his face was burning and that the smoke was emitting from his hair due to acid. The room was also full of fumes.
A woman who accompanied Khadija was pouring water on her, and the two women had pain, said the fir, and added that the woman helped change Khadija’s clothes, while Ikhlaq and her brother poured water over the children of Khadija and The clothes were changed.
The two children told Ikhlaq that his stepfather, Muhammad Majid, threw acid at all three and fled the house. Ikhlaq called the Police and Rescue 1122, who arrived at the site of the incident and transported the victims to the hospital to receive treatment.
“The defendant often fought with my sister; He wants to return to his first wife and wants to divorce my sister, ”said the FIR quoted Ikhlaq. “That is why he threw Khadija and his children acid and committed this injustice. Legal measures against him must be taken. “
Meanwhile, Rescue 1122 confirmed to receive a call in the control room on the incident, which took place near Daulat Imambargah. The 1122 rescue control room sent rescue equipment from stations near the incident site.
“Parts of the woman’s face and head were affected by the attack,” said Rescue 1122 in a statement. “The rescue staff arrived at the scene and provided first aid to the woman and then transferred her to Nishtar Hospital.”
According to the Pulitzer Center, acid attacks in Pakistan have been a significant concern, which predominantly affects women. Between 2007 and 2018, there were 1,485 cases reported, with many incidents derived from personal disputes, rejected marriage proposals or dowry disagreements.
In response, the National Assembly approved the Acid Crime Law and Burns in May 2018, introducing strict sanctions, including life imprisonment and substantial fines. As of 2022, the legislative action contributed to a decrease in acid attacks, with incidents that decrease by 50 percent since 2014.
Despite the decline and the presence of laws, incidents continue to take place throughout the country.
In September of last year, three women from a family suffered burns in an acid attack in Mauza Binda Ishaq in Rohillanwali Police enclosures. Only a few days later, a mother of two children was hospitalized with acid burns that she suffered at the hands of her ex -husband’s two brothers, apparently in revenge for looking for her divorce.
In April 2024, a session court in Karachi sentenced a man who threw acid at his wife 14 years of rigorous imprisonment. According to the charges, the defendant was a drug addict who had attacked his wife under suspicion of an extramarital matter.
