One of the two ice detainees, who fled after the electrical power of a Colorado prison ceded and inadvertently opened doors to freedom, was captured on Friday, authorities said.
Joel José González-González, 32, was caught by the agents of the Sheriff of Adams County, said local and federal officials, leaving his partner Escape Geilond Vido-Romero, 24, who still disappeared.
The agents acted in a public call about “a suspicious person” near West 64th Avenue and Beach Street, about 12 miles northwest of ice arrest in Aurora, at approximately 4:30 am, which leads to the capture, the sergeant of the Sheriff. Adam Sherman said in a statement to NBC News.
The two men first noticed disappeared at 12:35 am on Wednesday and ice jailers connected their disappearance with a blackout that occurred around 9:30 pm on Tuesday, authorities said.
A report from the Aurora Police discovered that “when the power was turned off, the back doors of the installation were opened to the football field”, and ICE officials believe “that both inmates escaped through the back door when the power went out.”
González-González, who is from Mexico, came to the United States through El Paso, Texas, on February 13, 2013, authorities said.
He had been in the Adams County prison in Brighton, Colorado, for a local position on January 8 when he landed at the ICE radar, authorities said. He was then arrested for ICE and has been waiting for an appointment in the Court.
