Water purifier dealer, manufacturer directed to pay Rs 1 lakh to two customers | India News

Namakkal: The consumer’s reimitional commission of the Namakkal (NCDRC) district ordered on Tuesday a water purifier dealership and the product manufacturer to pay a total compensation of RS 1 LAKH to two customers for providing defective products.
P Chandrasekaran de Belukurichi and K Sengottaiyan de R Goundampalayam bought water purifiers from AQUA CARE RO SYSTEM In the city of Namakkal in August 2022. The concessionaire affirmed that the purifiers had a capacity of six liters, and each client paid RS 20,000 for its unit. However, after the installation, it was discovered that the real capacity was only four liters. Despite multiple complaints to both the seller and the manufacturer, no replacement for the six -liter promised unit was provided.
Feeling aggrieved, Prema and Sengottaiyan filed separate complaints to the NCDRC against the concessionaire in April 2024. The case was heard by the consumer judge of the Namakkal V Ramaraj district, along with the members R Ramola and N Lakshmanan.
The judge pointed out that the plaintiffs had successfully demonstrated through the evidence that they had paid the six -liter water purifiers but that they only received four -liter models.
The judge pointed out that the seller had not provided a receipt as required by the Consumer Protection Law, labeling the sale of a non -existent product as an unfair commercial practice.
“The judge ordered the seller to compensate for each plaintiff with RS 30,000. The manufacturer must pay RS 20,000 each, totaling RS 1 Lakh,” said an NCDRC official.
