Toll in N. Macedonia hip-hop gig blaze rises to 59: interior minister – World

The toll of a fire that torn a nightclub in northern Macedonia that houses a locally popular hip-hop duo has risen to 59, the Interior Minister of the Balkan country said on Sunday.

“According to the information we have, there are 59 deceased people of which 35 are identified,” said Interior Minister Pance Toskovski, in the Kocani scene, added that arrest orders had been issued for four people over the fire.

The authorities had given a toll of 51.

“The number of injured according to the latest information until noon is 155 people,” said Toskovski.

Thirty -one of the dead were residents of Kocani, the eastern city where the concert took place, or the city of Stip nearby, added the minister.

Toskovski said the injured were taken to “hospitals throughout the country.”

According to Toskovski, the fire began after the pyrotechnic exhibitions of the concert established the ceiling, made of easily flammable material, in flames.

“Central arrest orders for four people have been issued,” said Toskovski.
