Several people killed, others injured after vehicle drives into Vancouver street festival crowd: police

Vancouver police say that several people have been killed and other injuries after a vehicle led to a crowd at a street festival Saturday night.

The incident occurred shortly after 8 pm near East 41st Avenue and Fraser Street, where the Lapu Lapu Day block party was being held.

Police said the driver is in custody.

In an X publication, the Vancouver Police Department said more information would be disclosed as the investigation is developed.

Previously, videos published on social networks showed emergency teams on the scene, with several people lying on the ground, some that appear injured.

CBC News has communicated with the Vancouver police for more details.

The NDP had made a campaign stop at the earlier festival in the day.

In a statement published in X, NDP leader Jagmeet Singh said he was “horrified to find out an incident in Lapu Lapu Day celebrations of Vancouver who injured and killed innocent people.”

He said that his thoughts are with the victims, their families and the Filipino community of Vancouver, “that they joined today to celebrate resilience.”

More to come.
