Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference President Mirwaiz Umar Farooq claimed on Friday that he was subdued house arrest and was prevented from offering congregational prayers at Jamia Masjid here for the fourth consecutive week. Mirwaiz, Kashmir’s top cleric, alleged that he was banned from offering prayers at the Jama Masjid in Nowhatta locality of the city.
There was no word from police about his accusation.
“A police vehicle parked outside to block the entrance and the authorities verbally informed that you will not be allowed to go to Jama Masjid today for the sermon and Friday prayers.
“This is the fourth consecutive Friday that I have been prevented from going to Jama Masjid, where a large number of people are eagerly waiting to participate in majlis e waz,” Mirwaiz said in a post on X.
He said that while the authorities have power, “I have patience and the creators promise” that God is with those who are patient.
“Condemn authoritarianism!” he added.
