NEW DELHI: punjab government has written to the Centre, seeking Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s intervention to end the stalemate over the ongoing farmers’ protest on the Punjab-Haryana border.
The letter written by Punjab Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian also highlighted the hunger strike of farmer representative Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been fasting unto death since November 26, and the subsequent observation by the Supreme Court on the topic.

The letter was written on December 20, the day SC asked state authorities to shift Dallewal to a hospital, if necessary. However, the letter was received at the ministry this week. Though Chouhan has, so far, not responded, while responding to a question on Dallewal’s fast during a press conference on Wednesday, he said his ministry would take action as per the SC’s directions.

When asked if he would invite farmers for talks, the minister said he meets and interacts with farmers’ organizations every Tuesday.
Farmers led by Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Apolitical) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) have been protesting on the Punjab-Haryana border since February last year, demanding legal guarantee for procurement of crops at MSP.
