The president of the PTI, the lawyer Gohar Ali Khan, said on Monday that his party had “nothing to do with” the bipartisan bill introduced in the United States Representatives Chamber, asking for sanctions from the Pakistani state officials for alleged human rights violations.
The bill, entitled The “Law of Democracy of Pakistan”, for alleged violations of human rights, including the “persecution” of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, was presented last month by Republican congressman Joe Wilson of South Carolina and Democrat Jimmy Panetta de California. It has been sent to the Foreign Affairs Chamber and Judicial Committees for greater deliberation.
In an answer, Islamabad minimized the matter and said it did not align with the “current positive dynamics” of bilateral relations between the two nations.
Speaking to journalists in Islamabad today, the president of PTI dissociated his party party, saying that “it had nothing to do with the bills presented in the United States.”
“There are numerous bills in the United States Congress,” said Gohar, added that he had not yet read the bill.
When asked about speculation about an American delegation that Visited Pakistan, the president of PTI said: “No one contacted us or we have any contact with them.”
In response to a question about whether the part had any contact with the establishment, the lawyer Gohar said he had “hope that a way would be”; However, I was not aware of these developments.
With respect to the action plan of the party, he said that it would be decided in collaboration with the opposition alliance. “We would receive the information from the Chief of Jui-F, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, after April 15”.
“All opposition parties will be contacted, and whatever the future course of action, we will carry it out with the alliance,” Gohar said.
The proposed legislation requires the imposition of sanctions to the head of the Pakistan army in 180 days if the country does not take measures to improve its human rights situation. The bill seeks to use the Global Law on Human Rights of Magnitsky Global of the United States, which allows the United States to deny visas and entry to people accused of human rights violations.
The bill also asks the administration of the United States to identify the key persons involved in the alleged deletion of the political opposition in Pakistan and place them in a list of sanctions.
