Three men went to trial in an English court on Monday for positions derived from the robbery of a golden toilet of 18 carats that was exhibited as a work of art in an exhibition in the birthplace of Winston Churchill.
The fully functional toilet, a work entitled “America” by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan, was stolen from the Churchill family of the Blenheim Palace in the south of England, an important tourist attraction and the Unesco World Heritage Site.
Prosecutor Julian Christopher said that a group of five men led two stolen vehicles through closed wooden doors on the lands of the palace before dawn on September 14, 2019. They broke out a window, broke a wooden door, they started The toilet of the wall and left after five minutes in the building.
The toilet that weighed 98 kilos (216 pounds) was secured for $ 6 million. Prosecutors say that it was probably divided into small amounts of gold to sell it.
Michael Jones, 39, is in trial in the Oxford crown court accused of a robbery charge, which he declared innocent.
Fred Doe, 36, and Bora Guccuk, 40, are accused of a conspiracy charge to convert or transfer criminal properties, namely, the gold, which they deny.
A fourth man James Sheen, 39, declared himself guilty of theft.
The trial is due to the last four weeks.
