Pope Francis “rested well” throughout Monday night as he continued fighting the double pneumonia in the hospital, said the Vatican at dawn on Tuesday.
“The Pope rested well, all night,” said the Vatican in a brief statement of a line. He did not expand more in the condition of the 88 -year -old Pontiff or if he had been able to continue with the work activities from his hospital’s bed.
The update was shorter than the previous ones, which included more information about Pope’s activities.
The update occurred after the Holy See on Monday said that although the condition of the Pope remained critical, he had shown a “slight improvement” and had been able to resume the work of his hospital bed, including the “shepherd of the parish of the parish of Gaza to express his paternal.
He added that a “mild renal insufficiency” that had been reported during the weekend had initially caused an alarm no longer considered a reason for concern.
Even so, in an update, the Vatican spokesman, Matteo Bruni, warned that doctors “in view of the complexity of the clinical image, they still do not change the prognosis of being protected.”
Earlier on Monday, a Vatican source had told the international partner of NBC News, Sky News, which Francis was normally eating.
The fears have grown on the condition of the Pontiff after being admitted to the Gemelli Hospital in Rome on February 14 and then diagnosed with “double pneumonia” or pneumonia in both lungs, and pop suffered symptoms similar to asthma during the weekend .
On Monday night, the Secretary of State for the State of Vatican Pietro Parolin directed the first night masses with the Cardinal of Rome to pray for Francis in the Plaza de San Pedro.
Hundreds of people could be seen in photos gathered in the square, where the Pontiff blessed people and requested his blessing on his first day as Pope.
“This night,” Parolin said Monday night, according to Vatican News, “we also want to unite publicly, here at home, with the recitation of the Holy Rosary.”
“We trust the powerful intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary,” he said, adding: “That she, our loving mother, supports him at this time of illness and judgment and helps him recover soon.”
