On Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressed Pakistan’s desire to improve economic ties with the United States, a day after a delegation of investors led by Gentry Beach, the near assistant of the president of the United States, met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Pakistan and the United States have delicate and complex ties, formed by shared security concerns and divergent strategic priorities.
At a press conference today, Fo spokesman Shafqat Ali Khan said: “We want to improve economic ties with the United States further.”
Responding to the consultations, Shafqat described the members of the visiting delegation as “good entrepreneurs.” He clarified that the visit was not organized through the FO, and added that the entrepreneurs who toured Pakistan was a matter of “routine.”
Shafqat said that more questions about the visit to the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) should be sent.
Beach also declared yesterday: “We planned to invest billions of dollars in Pakistan in several different areas, including critical minerals and real estate.”
By qualifying Pakistan as “one of the greatest global opportunities,” the investor promised to “build some of the high -end and luxury properties never seen in Pakistan.” He also mentioned energy, technology, artificial intelligence and other areas that needed attention and investment.
During his meeting with Beach, Prime Minister Shehbaz had reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of his government to facilitate foreign investors by guaranteeing a conducive business environment.
Answering the questions yesterday about the statements made in favor of former Prime Minister Imran Khan for the envoy of Trump Richard Grenelll special missions, Beach had assured the Government that the US administration has only respect for the titular leadership of Pakistan.
GSP+ ‘Only one appearance’ of the Pak-EE Association
The FO spokesman also mentioned a recent warning from a European Union official to Pakistan so as not to give their GSP+state.
Olof Skoog, the special human rights representative of the EU who is currently on a one -week visit to Pakistan, reiterated EU’s concerns about civilian trials in military courts and opposed the recent movements to restrict Freedom of expression.
“The GSP+ state is just one aspect of the Pak-EU association. The visit of the EU special envoy is also part of the routine, ”said Shafqat.
The EU is the second largest commercial partner of Pakistan, with the generalized scheme of preferences (GSP+) that allows the country to enjoy free or minimum taxes in European exports.
However, the scheme is conditioned to the beneficiary countries that demonstrate tangible progress in the implementation of 27 international conventions on human and labor rights, environmental protection, climate change and good governance.
