The Hockey World Cup will return in 2028.
The NHL Commissioner, Gary Bettman, and the executive director of the NHL players association, Marty Walsh, announced the return of the Male International Tournament on Wednesday before Canada played in Sweden in the confrontation of the 4 nations.
The World Cup will take place in February 2028, instead of a weekend of stars, in a place yet to name.
The League says that a bidding process is expected to open for cities and host places in the coming months.
The NHL finally celebrated a World Cup in 2016 in Toronto. A team from North America of Sub-23 North America and the European team, a group of stars from unrepated countries, joined Canada, the United States, Russia, Sweden, Finland and Checia in the eight team tournament.
Bettman has repeatedly declared the desire to have the best international tournament every two years.
The NHL players will return to the Olympic Games in 2026 for the first time since 2014 after missing the 2018 and 2022 games.
The confrontation of the 4 nations between Canada, the United States, Sweden and Finland serves as an Olympic appetizer. The round swirl tournament extends from the curtain collector on Wednesday in Montreal to the final on February 20 in Boston.
Russia was excluded from the event in the midst of its current war in Ukraine. The International Ice Hockey Federation has also banned Russia and its ally Belarus of events through the 2025-26 calendar.
