Mob torches vehicle which killed motorcyclist in Karachi’s Johar Town: police – Pakistan

An angry mafia set fire to a cement mixing truck that hit and killed a motorcyclist in Gulistan-iihahar on Friday morning, according to police officers and rescue services.

GULSHAN Police Superintendent (SP) Ahmed Iqbal Memon said Dawn.com That a “apparently driven truck recklessly” hit the riders near perfume Chowk around 1 in the morning.

“One of the riders was killed while the other was injured,” said Sp Memon. “The incident enraged local residents, who came out and set fire to the vehicle (cement mixer).”

The police officer added that the cement mixer driver was arrested and additional investigation was launched. “Apparently, the incident seemed to be the result of reckless driving.” Dawn.com.

Meanwhile, Rescue officer 1122 Hassaan Khan said Dawn.com that the vehicle was completely destroyed in the fire.

In a separate incident, a motorcyclist was beaten by a towing truck in Liaquatabad, within the limits of the Sharifabad Police Station.

The Senior Police Superintendent of the Center (SSP) Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqi said Dawn.com That the victim was riding his bicycle in the high step of Sharea Pakistan in Liaquatabad when the 22 -wheeled trailer hit him.

“He suffered critical injuries and was taken to the Abasi Shaheed hospital (Ash) where doctors declared him dead,” said SSP Siddiqui. “The wandering driver … has been arrested.”

Police have registered a first information report (FIR) against the driver of the victim’s wife’s complaint by virtue of sections 320 (punishment for involuntary homicide or a negligent driving) and 427 (pranks causing damage) of the Pakistan Criminal Code.

The plaintiff said at the FIR that she was at home when she received a call at 1:30 am informing her that her husband had been injured in the accident and taken to Ash. She and her younger brother arrived at the hospital, but they were informed that the victim had expired.

On March 2, a man died in a traffic accident with a heavy vehicle in Karachi.

According to the Senior Police Superintendent of the Center (SSP) Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqi, “Man was riding the motorcycle when a 16-wheel trailer (TLA-142) hit him at 4:10 am near Erum Bakery, Liaquatabad-4”.

“The man suffered critical injuries and was transported to the Abasi Shaheed hospital, where he died,” said SSP Siddiqi Dawn.com.

There was an alarming increase in traffic accidents in Karachi, since almost 500 people died, while 4879 were injured in 2024 due to a series of reasons ranging from reckless driving to construction activities, according to hospital data.

Police surgeon Dr. Sumaiya Syed said Dawn.com That a total of 497 people were referred to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Trauma Center/Civil Karachi Hospital and Ash for Post Mortem exams.
