A home renewal company backed by celebrity contractor Mike Holmes said Tuesday that he is closing, blaming CBC news cover.
“Due to the actions taken by CBC, the reputation of our company has been severely affected, which makes it financially impossible for us to continue operations,” wrote Ivan Atanasov, CEO of AgM’s renovations based in Ontario, in A letter to the merchants, vendors and contractors of the company.
“Despite our relentless efforts to recover, the reach of damage has left us without a viable path to follow,” he wrote. “AGM … will be permanently closed.”
CBC News reported two stories in AGM this month: The First by MarketOn homemade projects backed by celebrities, and the second, an investigation focused on electrical problems.
Each one featured AGM clients who complained about poor quality work, and say that Holmes’ support influenced their decision to hire AGM, a decision they now regret.
In the second report, two clients complained that AGM did a “dangerous” electrical work. In one case, unlike the provincial law, the company used an electrician without a license, according to the documentation seen by CBC. AGM denied having acted badly.

The report also revealed that the AGM is under investigation by the Electric Security Authority (ESA) of Ontario.
And he pointed out that while Holmes supported the AGM, ESA also paid him to appear in videos about electric safety.
Mike Holmes’ company, The Holmes Group, did not respond to repeated requests for AGM comments and ESA investigation. But after CBC communicated, an agm website integrated on the Holmes website disappeared. AGM video ads with Holmes were also taken from the Internet.
‘Inamovible red line’
After the CBC report on the electrical problems of AGM, Holmes posted A Facebook statement about the importance of electrical safety, stating that it is “essential and is an immovable red line for my equipment and associations.”
That publication seemed to suggest that he had suspended the AGM ties due to ESA investigation.
The Atanasov letter did not approach whether the sudden disappearance of the company’s ads with Holmes affected its final result.
Atanasov finished his letter with a positive note, stating that he is proud of “the work we have achieved together and in the thousands of house owners that we have helped.”
The owner Peter Mikhail, who appeared in the news of CBC, said he does not feel that AGM should be proud of the work done at his home in Caledon, Ontario.
Mikhail hired the company to make an important renewal of the kitchen in May 2022. Their complaints include damaged floors, incorrectly installed accessories and insecure electrical work.
Mikhail says that AGM relieved is no longer in business, but that he cares about customers who are in the middle of the renewal, and those who were not satisfied with their reindeer and are trying to obtain compensation.
Several unhappy clients, including Mikhail, have submitted demands aimed at the AGM.
Mikhail estimates that he will have to pay thousands of dollars to fix the work done at home. He believes that he will not get agm money now and says that the renewal industry must be regulated to protect the owners.
“[It’s] A type of strange sensation at this time, because I feel that I have won something, and yet I have not done it, “he said. Is it going to happen to these people?”
AgM says that he cannot comment on the cases before the courts and, in his defense declaration for each case, he denies any irregularity.
Mikhail suggests that Holmes, whose motto is “do it well”, could help AGM customers who need help.
Celebrities such as Mike Holmes and former CFL player Graeme Bell make the launch of renovations and constructions of customized housing properly, but a long list of clients with housing and nightmare construction shows that despite the fact that these celebrities make the tone for Trusting them, there is little responsibility when things go wrong.
