Jan Suraj party Chief Prashant Kishor has extended support to comedian Kunal Kamra, who faces an intense reaction about her Controversial observations about Maharashtra Principal Vice Minister Eknath Shinde.
When describing Kamra as a friend, Kishor said the comedian has no political agenda. “He has no hidden reason, and those who think he is playing politics is wrong,” Kishor said.
He highlighted Kamra’s simple lifestyle in Pots, where he practices organic agriculture along with his comedy career.
“Kunal Kamra is my friend,” said Kishor, recognizing that comedian’s comments had caused controversy. However, he said: “But as far as I know, he has no hidden reason. The people who think he is playing politics, would not do any of that.”
“He has no political rivalry. He is one of those who love his country. Maybe he has chosen his words incorrectly. If he has done it, then there should be legal actions. But I can say that he has respect for the country and its constitution,” he added.
The controversy broke out after Kamra referred to Shinde as a “gaddar” (traitor) during an action, which led to multiple police complaints, vandalism of the place and death threats of the right -wing groups. Several political figures, including the Prime Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, have condemned their comments. However, the Madras Superior Court recently granted an interim early bond of Kamra.
Being challenging, Kamra led X (previously Twitter) to affirm that he will not be intimidated by the pressure of the mafia or “hide under the bed.”
When asked about possible alliances, he reiterated that his party is open to discussions, but he dismissed speculation about an alliance with Chiag Paswan and said: “Oh, brother, anyone in the world should come: Chiag should come, the lamp should come, Lantern should come in hand, there are no doubt.” However, he praised Chiag Paswan, calling him a “mature person, a good person, a young leader” who advocates development beyond the policy of caste in Bihar.
Kishor also talked about the need for a new political alternative, stating: “Some new option should come. Whether this option is Jan Swaraj or not, there may be a debate about this, but people want to change.” He acknowledged that Asaduddin Owaisi’s party had positioned himself as an alternative in Bihar parts in the last elections, saying: “It is a democracy, everyone has the right to dispute the elections, and Owaisi Sahab also has the right.”
