‘Mai bhi koi sheesh mahal bana sakta tha’: PM Modi’s veiled dig at Kejriwal in Delhi | India News


NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday took a veiled dig at Aam Aadmi Party supremo Arvind Kejriwal, saying that while he could have built a ‘Sheesh Mahal‘ For his part, his focus remained on providing homes for the disadvantaged.
The BJP has been criticizing Kejriwal for allegedly spending a huge amount of money on his official residence during his tenure as CM, referring to the home as “sheesh mahal”.
AAP has defended the renewal, stating that the residence was intended for all future CMs. Following Kejriwal’s resignation, Atishi briefly occupied the residence, but had to leave because disabled people needed to complete inventory checks before a new assignment.
Inaugurating several projects, including the slum rehabilitation project and Swabhiman Apartments at Jailorwala Bagh in Delhi, Prime Minister Modi, without naming names, said: “The country knows very well that Modi has never built a house for himself, but in the last ten years, I have fulfilled the dreams of more than four million poor families by providing them with homes Mai bhi koi ‘Sheesh Mahal’ bana sakta tha’ (I could have built a ‘Sheesh Mahal’. for them (me), but my only dream was for my compatriots to have permanent homes.
The Prime Minister also compared the AAP government with Delhi’s ‘aapda’ and called for its defeat in the polls.
“For the last 10 years, Delhi has been in a big disaster (AAP-da). Some dishonest people, by taking on Anna Hazare, have pushed Delhi into this disaster. Liquor policy scams, liquor scams nursery schools, scams in the treatment of the poor, scams in the name of fighting pollution, scams in recruitment,” PM Modi said.

“These people talked about the development of Delhi, but they themselves have become a ‘disaster’ and hit Delhi. These people openly engage in corruption and then even glorify it. “First they steal, then they brag about it…this disaster has hit Delhi and hence the people of Delhi have started a battle against this disaster,” he added.
Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone of Veer Savarkar College in Roshanpura, Najafgarh. The new university will have state-of-the-art facilities, including academic blocks in East Delhi and Dwarka, aimed at providing modern learning environments for students. It also laid the foundation for three new projects in Delhi University worth over Rs 600 crore.
He also inaugurated a number of development projects across the city, including 1,675 apartments for residents of JJ groups in Delhi. The apartments, located at Swabhiman Apartments in Ashok Vihar, are part of the government’s efforts to provide affordable housing to eligible beneficiaries in the economically weaker section (EWS).
