Life term for 10 accused in 2019 Kerala double murder case | India News


KOCHI/KASARAGOD: A CBI court on Friday sentenced 10 accused to life imprisonment and four others, including former CPM MLA from Uduma KV Kunhiraman, to five years in jail for the murder of two Youth Congress workers. in Periya in Kasaragod, Kerala, in February 2019. The court found them guilty on Saturday.
All 10 defendants were sentenced to life in prison for two counts of murder and criminal conspiracy. A fine of Rs 2 lakh each has also been imposed on them. The case pertains to the murder of the Youth Congress in Periya on February 17, 2019 while he was returning home on a motorcycle. They were assaulted by a team of hitmen with weapons.
“This case reflects and represents the strange brand of political vandalism that culminated in the untimely deaths of two vibrant young people,” the judge said. In Kasaragod, emotions ran high at the funeral of two victims as the court pronounced the verdict. Parents and relatives burst into tears, expressing their dissatisfaction with the amount of the punishment. They said they expected the death penalty for those convicted.
