A leader of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI) was among three people killed on Thursday when his vehicle led by a land mine in the Kalat district of Baluchistan, according to the spokesman of the provincial government Shahid Rind.
Baluchistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have faced increasing attacks of militants and terrorists.
In a statement, Rind said three people died and five people were injured in the incident.
“A private vehicle hit a land mine in the Kalat Buri Buri Buri Kaputo area,” Rind said. “Levies staff arrived on the scene and carried out rescue operations.
“The leader and councilor of the Jui neighborhood, Abdullah, is among the deceased,” added the government spokesman.
According to RIND, the Government condemned the “terrorist incident” and added that the injured have been transported to the Hospital of the District headquarters in Kalat.
“The incident is being investigated. The situation of the law and order will be guaranteed at all costs,” added the spokesman.
Three police officers were martyred and at least another 16 were injured on April 15, since an explosion attacked a Baluchistan police vehicle on the Dasht road of the Mastung district.
Militant violence and security operations intensified in the country in March, with the number of militant attacks that exceed 100 for the first time since November 2014, according to a report by the Institute of Conflict Studies and Security of Pakistan.
Pakistan took second place in the 2025 global terrorism index, with the number of deaths in terrorist attacks that increased by 45 percent during the past year to 1,081.
