IAEA chief Grossi pays ‘courtesy call’ to PM: PID – Pakistan

The general director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (OIEA) (DG) Rafael Mariano Grossi paid Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif a courtesy call on Wednesday, according to a statement from the Press Information Department (PID).

According to the statement, the prime minister chose the positioning of the nuclear energy of the OIEA as a solution to mitigate climate change and emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to take advantage of atomic technology for sustainable development.

“During the meeting, the peaceful applications of nuclear technology in several sectors were discussed, including the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, agriculture, food preservation, water and industry management,” reads the statement.

PID declared that Prime Minister Shehbaz pointed out the “productive and mutually beneficial association” of Pakistan decades with the OIEA, of which he is a founding member.

“With the support of the OIEA, Pakistan has achieved significant progress in the generation of nuclear energy, industrial development, medical care and agricultural advances, contributing to the country’s socio -economic growth,” reads the statement.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed a greater collaboration with the OIEA to take advantage of the entire potential of atomic technology for peaceful purposes, ensuring continuous benefits for both Pakistan and the global community, Pid said.

Grossi “appreciated the constructive and long data commitment of Pakistan with the OIEA and said that the organization would continue working with Pakistan with the same spirit,” the statement concluded.

Last year, Pakistan was chosen a member of the Board of Governors of the OIEA for 21 years since he became a member of the agency.
