New Delhi: The Supreme Court annulled Tuesday Bihar Legislative CouncilThe decision to expel RJD MLC Sunil Kumar Singhcalling “highly excessive” and “disproportionate” punishment.
He expulsion He arrived after Singh’s comments last year on Bihar CM niten kumar repeatedly changing political alliances. The Court ruling revoked the notification of the Electoral Commission for a Bypoll to fill the seat in the power of Singh in the Bihar Legislative Council.
In February, during the budget session, Singh’s conduct in the Chamber was labeled as “abhorrent” and “improper” by the Ethics Committee of the Bihar Legislative Council. Singh had used a derogatory language towards Niten Kumar, which caused a MLC Bhishma Sahni complaint.
The committee’s report recommended its expulsion, saying that Singh, as the main whip of the opposition, had not been able to defend the dignity of the Council.
Singh was accused of imitating Prime Minister Niten Kumar during the budget session.
Although the recommendation of the Ethics Committee was approved by the Council, the opposition leader, rage Devi, condemned the decision, describing it as “dictatorial” and warning that he established a dangerous precedent. He accused the BJP-JDU alliance of trying to suppress the dissent. The RJD leader, Texashwi Prasad Yadav, also criticized the expulsion, describing it as an act of dictatorship, and promised that people would respond accordingly in the next elections.
At the last hearing, the Apex court had noticed that legislators have forgotten how to express dissent or criticize opponents respectfully. This comment came from a Bank of Judges Surya Kant and NK Singh, since they heard the request of Sunil Kumar challenging their expulsion from the Legislative Council of Bihar for alleged misconduct.
