Goa ex-MLA dies in Belagavi minutes after assault by auto driver

PANAJI: A former Goa MLA on Saturday collapsed at a hotel and died minutes after he was supposedly attacked by a car driver after a discussion in neighboring Karnataka, an official said. Police arrested the accused car driver, he said.
Congress leader Mamlatdar lava68, was on a business trip to Belagavi, about 120 km from Panaji, where the incident took place. Before joining politics in 2012, Mamlatdar was deputy superintendent of police officer in Goa.
According to a senior Karnataka police Department Officer, Mamlatdar and a car driver had a discussion after an accident. During the altercation, the Autodriver hit him several times, said the official citing images of CCTV acquired from the place.
After the assault, Mamlatdar went to a hotel where he collapsed on a ladder. “He was taken to a government hospital but was declared dead before admission,” said the official.
Belagavi police have arrested Rickshaw driver, he said.
Mamlatdar was a member of the GOA Legislative Assembly between 2012-2017 that represents the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak (MGP) party. He had joined Congress in 2022 and I underaged Goa surveys that year of Madkai’s constituency.
