The Minister of External Affairs, S Jaishankar, concluded his official visit to Ireland and Northern Ireland, participating in high -level discussions aimed at improving bilateral cooperation in multiple sectors. During his trip, he met the Irish president Michael D Higgins and the Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Simon Harris, and both parties agreed to establish a Joint Economic Commission to boost trade, investment and technology links.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) declared that discussions with President Higgins focused on growing bilateral ties and global developments. Jaishankar’s conversations with Foreign Minister Harris covered several aspects of India-Ilanda relationsincluding trade, education, mobility and emerging sectors such as cybersecurity, AI, Fintech and semiconductors. The leaders also explored ways to expand collaboration in higher education and improve opportunities for professionals from both countries.

He added that they also exchanged views on key world issues, including the Ukraine conflict, developments in Western Asia, Afghanistan and Indo-Pacific, while discussing Indian cooperation and multilateralism.
During his visit, Jaishankar paid floral tributes to the statue of Rabindranath Tagore at St Stephen’s Green in Dublin and interact with the Indian community, recognizing its contributions to Irish society. He also participated in an academic discussion at University College Dublin, sharing India’s perspective on world affairs with academics and academics.
Commitments in Northern Ireland
Jaishankar’s itinerary included a visit to Belfast, where she met the Prime Minister of Vice President Emma Little-Pengelly and Minister Junior Aisling Reilly, thanking them for their support in establishing the Indian Consulate in Ireland of the North. He highlighted the potential to deepen India’s commitment to the region in sectors such as skills, cybersecurity, technology, creative industries and manufacturing.

The minister also visited the University of Queen in Belfast, which establishes a campus in Gift City, Gujarat. He committed to Indian students who studied at the university, emphasizing the growing academic ties of the United India-Reino. “It is good to visit Queen University in Belfast tonight. His next campus in Gift City, Gujarat, is an example of the potential of ties in education, ”he said.
Jaishankar’s visit to Belfast culminated with the inauguration of the Indian Consulate, aimed at serving the Indian community and promoting cooperation in commerce, business, technology and education. “The Consulate will meet the needs of the Indian community, while exploring greater cooperation in commerce, technology, business and education,” he said.
The MEA stressed that Jaishankar’s visit, which takes place within the first two months of the new Ireland government, highlights the priority that both countries give to strengthen bilateral relations and guarantee a sustained commitment.
