DOGE-affiliated employee accessed IRS system with sensitive taxpayer information

Washington – An IRS employee who is affiliated with the Government’s efficiency department has accessed an IRS system that houses confidential information about taxpayers, according to an administration official.

The employee received access to the Integrated Data Recovery System, which allows IRS employees to access taxpayers accounts.

The IDRs allows employees to have “instant visual access to certain taxpayers’ accounts,” according to the IRS website. The system can be used to “investigate account information and request returns” and “automatic generation of notices, collection documents and other results.”

IDRS users “are authorized to access only those accounts necessary to fulfill their official tasks,” according to the IRS website.

The person with access to the IDRS is an IRS employee who began during Trump’s second administration and is affiliated with Doge, the official confirmed. The official said that the employee was carrying out the “Mission Lege” and acting “legally and with the appropriate security authorizations.”

“The waste, fraud and abuse have been deeply rooted in our broken system for too long,” said White House spokesman Harrison Fields, when asked about the employee’s access to the sensitive system. “Direct access to the system is needed to identify and solve it.

“Doge will continue to throw a light on the fraud they discover as the American people deserve to know what their tax government earned with so much effort has been spending,” Fields added.

The IRS did not immediately respond to comments requests on Sunday night.

The measure, reported for the first time by the Washington Post, is an expansion of Doge’s efforts to access confidential information in the power of the federal government.

Doge, headed by Elon Musk, has focused on several government agencies and departments in an effort to cut what the administration paints as a wasteful expense. Doge has aimed to cut the members of the Federal Labor Force.

NBC News has reported that Dege has accessed the Treasury Department Payment System, which stores confidential information such as Social Security numbers. The Secretary of National Security, Kristi Noem, also said this month that President Donald Trump authorized Musk to access FEMA Disaster data.

The group has also pointed to the Office of Financial Protection of the consumer and the United States International Development Agency.
