Canada’s coach, Casey Stoney, leaves the Pinatar Cup with a trophy in his hand and a better idea of talent in question.
“I think there have been some questions answered, both ways,” Stoney said.
Marie-Yasmine (Mimi) Alidou put her hand with a hat trick on Tuesday when the sixth post in Canada won the four-team women’s soccer tournament with a 7-0 dominant victory over No. 42 Taiwan.
Alidou, who plays football from his club in Portugal for Benfica, needed only 32 minutes to complete his Hat Trick in the Pinatar Arena. Saint-Hubert’s 29-year-old player, who now has five goals in eight appearances for Canada.
It was a unidirectional traffic for the Canadians, who had 70 percent possession and beat Taiwan 19-2 (11-0 in white shooting) with an 8-0 advantage in the corners.
“It was about maintaining professional standards against a team that we knew we should overcome. I am disappointed that they had no more goals, if I’m sincere,” Stoney said. “We could have had a little more intensity in the second half in terms of our attack play, but we made changes in part time. That will make a difference.”

Marie-Yasmine “Mimi” Alidou scored three goals when Canada won the Pinatar Cup with a Taiwan 7-0 defeat in San Pedro del Pinatar, Spain.
Canada drew No. 17 China 1-1 and blank No. 31 Mexico 2-0 previously in the tournament. Taiwan lost the three games, surpassed 15-0.
With Mexico (2-1-0) publishing a 2-0 victory over China (1-1-1) earlier in the day at Pinatar Arena, Canadians needed a victory to lift the trophy.
Alidou, defender Gabby Carle and midfielder Emma Regan leave Spain with his improved reputation. And the 20 -year -old attacker Olivia Smith continues to impress.
Stoney said he wanted to see his entire list in action in the tournament and that he was faithful to his word, with Simi Awujo and Jade Rose without seeing action. Awujo received a blow to the training, while Rose was not expected to play in the tournament as he continued his recovery of an earlier injury.
He marked the first time in Canada in the Pinatar Cup, previously won by Scotland, Belgium, Iceland and Finland.
Canadian women have not lost regulation time in 22 games dating from a 1-0 defeat against Brazil in Montreal in October 2023. Canada had gone 14-0-8 since then with three of the draws becoming defeats by penalty (two to the United States and one to Germany) and one in a shooting victory (over Brazil).
Stoney made six changes in his initial alignment with only Captain Jessie Fleming, Jayde Riviere, Smith, Reid and Huitema retaining his places. The initial 11 entered the game with 661 total limits, below a combined 750 for the confrontation of Mexico and 690 for the Chinese contest.
Alidou opened the scoring in the fourth minute after a Nichelle Prince pass put it behind the defense. Taiwan goalkeeper Wang Yu-Ting made the first rescue, but could not control the rebound and Alidou took advantage.

Leon joined San Diego’s wave on Tuesday, leaving Aston Villa de England to return to the NWSL in a two -year contract with a mutual option by 2027.
Huitema did it 6-0 from the penalty point in the 49th minute after Smith was shot down in Taiwan’s penalty. Larisey’s heading of a Cruz Riviere ended the score in 75.
By substitutes, Canada ended with nine players with Larisey and Riviere, both with a blow, leaving in the dying minutes.
Stoney told journalists on Monday that he expects Canadians to play at home during the March-April International Window.
