A delegation from the Taliban government was visiting Japan for the first time on Monday, in a rare diplomatic visit outside the region.
The Afghan delegation left Kabul on Saturday, on a visit that local media said they would last a week and included higher education officials, foreign affairs and the Ministries of Economics.
“We are looking for a dignified interaction with the world for a strong, united, advanced, prosperous, developed and to be an active member of the international community,” Vice -Minister of the Ministry of Economy that is part of the delegation, tweeted on Saturday .
The Taliban government makes regular visits to neighboring and regional countries, even in Central Asia, Russia and China.
However, it has only officially visited Europe for the summits of diplomacy in Norway in 2022 and 2023.
The Japan Embassy in Kabul moved temporarily to Qatar after the fall of the previous government backed abroad and the acquisition by the Taliban in 2021. But since then it has reopened and resumed diplomatic and humanitarian activities in the country.
The Afghan delegation plans “to exchange opinions with Japanese government officials during their stay”, the public broadcaster of Japan NHK He informed, citing unidentified Afghan diplomatic sources.
The Japan Foreign Ministry could not immediately comment on the visit when it contacted AFP.
