The Vancouver Whitecaps could not make history as the first Canadian team to win the Concacaf Champions Cup on Sunday.
Instead, Ángel Sepúlveda scored twice and Cruz Azul defeated the 5-0 Whitecaps to win their seventh Concacaf title.
Sepúlveda ended with a better nine goals. Ignacio Rivero, Lorenzo Faravelli and Mateusz Bogusz also scored for Cruz Azul, which built a 4-0 advantage in the half-time.
The MX Club League tied the Crosstown Rival Club America for most titles in the tournament. It was the first title of Cruz Azul since 2013-14 when the mycin beat Tijuana.
The WhiteCaps expected to be the first Major League Soccer winner from the Seattle Sounders in 2022.
Cruz Azul had four goal shots in the first half and scored in all of them. The mycin took advantage of a defensive period with the Whitecaps, and Ignacio Rivero ended coldly with the left foot in the seventh minute in front of the fans of the house in the University Olympic stadium.
Faraveli’s goal occurred after a similar defensive period, hit from the distance and entered the network after hitting the post.
After the sliding goal of Sepúlveda in the 37th, Bogusz added a goal in the 45º just before the teams got into the break.
Sepúlveda added another goal in a heading in the 50th.

It was the fourth clean blade of the Cruz Azul goalkeeper, Kevin Mier. The WhiteCaps had no goal shots during the game.
Vancouver was without Sebastian Berhalter due to the accumulation of yellow cards. He scored on both legs of the semifinal against Lionel Messi and Inter Miami.

The WhiteCaps expected Captain Ryan Gauld to return from a knee injury in time for the game, but was not available.
Cruz Azul advanced with a two -legged victory over UANL Tigres.
It was the first meeting between WhiteCaps and Cruz Azul.
