The Iranian authorities said on Saturday that several suspects had been arrested in the case of the murder of a student who caused a night of protest at the University of Tehran.
Amir Mohammad Khazeghi, a 19 -year -old business student, was killed by thieves on Wednesday near the University’s bedroom, according to media reports. The incident has caught the attention of the nation and caused outrage and protests, and the students demanded better security on the campus.

The first vice president of Iran, Mohammad Reza Aref, has ordered an “urgent and exhaustive research” about the murder of Khaleghi, IRNA saying.
Government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajarani, on Friday, addressed the problem in X, stating that “the security of students and the peace of families is a duty and priority for the government.”
Meanwhile, the caretaker chief of the University of Tehran, Hossein Hosseini, expressed solidarity with the students by attending their meeting on Friday night, IRNA reported.
The protests at the University of Tehran occur more than two years after the demonstrations throughout the country swept Iran after the death in custody of Mahsa Amini in September 2022. Amini, a young Kurda Kurda, died three days after His arrest for allegedly violating the strict Islamic clothing code of Iran.
Universities, particularly in Tehran, have been at the forefront of protests in Iran, including 1979 protests during the Islamic revolution that overthrew Shah from Iran.
The students of the University of Tehran also shaped a large wave of protests in 1999 after the closing of a critical newspaper with the Government.
Khaleghi’s body was buried on Saturday in his hometown in the south of the province of Khorasan, in eastern Iran.
