Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, said Wednesday that the creation of superintelligent artificial intelligence is “now in sight” and will announce a “new era of personal empowerment.”
Zuckerberg said that the finish line will be “different from others in the industry” because it will focus on developing AI’s superintelligence to benefit people’s personal life, instead of directing AI to automate work, a growing concern as more and more companies move to replace entry level roles with AI.
“The AI continues to accelerate, and in recent months, we have begun to see glimpses of AI systems improving,” Zuckerberg said in a video posted on Facebook. “Therefore, the development of superintelligence is already in sight, but there is this great open question about what we should direct the superintelligence.”
“I think that an even more significant impact on our lives will come that everyone has a personal superintelligence that helps him achieve his goals, believes what he wants to see in the world, is a best friend and becomes the person who aspires to be,” said Zuckerberg.
Zuckerberg announced last month the creation of Meta Superintelligence Labs, a new unit of the company that will work to develop these new technological capabilities. It is expected that this company towards the superintelligence costs “hundreds of billions of dollars,” said Zuckerberg before. The company also has plans to build several “superclusters” for the development of superintelligence, one of which is scheduled to complete for next year.
People have increasingly resorted to AI chatbots for personal reasons, With a survey by Elon University, finding that 51% of respondents use large language models for personal efforts instead of work -related activities.
Zuckerberg added in the video that he believes that “personal devices such as glasses” could be a large part of the superintelligence in everyday life, nodding with the development of AI glasses.
“I think deeply in the construction of personal superintelligence for all,” Zuckerberg said. “And in the finish line, we have the resources to build the required mass infrastructure and the ability to offer a new technology to billions of people.”
Goal is in a recruitment spree for the best talent in AI. The OpenAi CEO, Sam Altman, said last month he was trying to hunt Operai employees by offering them $ 100 million bonds and compensation packages. Altman added that “so far none of our best people have decided to take advantage of it.”
