The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, declared challenging on Saturday that his compatriots “will not give their land to the occupants”, after President Donald Trump suggested that a peace agreement would include some “exchanges” of territories with Russia.
“The answer to the territorial question of Ukraine is already in the Constitution of Ukraine,” Zelenskyy said in a message on Telegram at dawn on Saturday. “No one will do it and nobody can deviate from Him. The Ukrainians will not give their land to the occupant.”
His comments occurred after Trump announced in Truth Social that a long -awaited meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin had been scheduled for next week in Alaska.
More details and logistics of the meeting are not yet clear and are still very fluid, including if Zelenskyy will be involved. Trump did not mention the Ukrainian president in the post announcing the meeting with Putin.
Later on Friday, in the White House, Trump suggested that there has been spoken about Russia and Ukraine potentially “exchanging” the territory as part of a high fire agreement. “There will be some exchange of territories to the improvement of both and … we will talk about that, either later or tomorrow, or whatever.”
A White House official also said Friday that Russians have provided a list of demands of a high potential fire for war in Ukraine, and the United States is trying to obtain the acceptance of Ukrainian and European allies.
But in his message on Saturday, Zelenskyy said that any decision made without Ukraine was “decisions against peace,” and added: “They will not achieve anything.”
