The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, warned on Saturday that “decisions without Ukraine” would not bring peace and ruled out the territory of cediring to Russia.
“The Ukrainians will not give their land to the occupant,” he said on social networks, while the president of the United States, Donald Trump, and Russian President Vladimir Putin prepare to celebrate a summit next week in Alaska to discuss peace in Ukraine.
“Any decision against him, any decision without Ukraine, are also decisions against peace. They will not achieve anything,” he said, adding that the war “cannot end without us, without Ukraine.”
Zelensky said that Ukraine was “ready for real decisions that can bring peace”, but said it should be a “dignified peace”, without giving details.
Later, Zelensky wrote in an X post that exchanged opinions about a “diplomatic solution” to the conflict with French president Emmanuel Macron.
In expressing his gratitude for the support of France, the Ukrainian leader wrote: “Ukraine, France and all our partners are ready to work in the most productive way possible for the good of real peace.
“It is really important that Russians do not succeed in deceiving anyone again. We all need a genuine end for war and the reliable security bases for Ukraine and other European nations.”
Tens of thousands of people have been killed since Russia launched their large -scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, with millions forced to flee their homes.
Three rounds of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine this year have not failed to bear fruit, and it is not clear if a summit would bring peace closer.
Putin has resisted multiple calls from the United States, Europe and Kyiv for a high fire.
He has also ruled out conversations with Zelensky at this stage, a meeting that the Ukrainian president says that it is necessary to advance an agreement.
When announcing the summit with Putin on Friday, Trump said that “there will be some exchange of territories to improve Ukraine and Russia, without providing more details.
The Alaska Summit on August 15 would be the first among the presidents of the United States and the Russians since Joe Biden met with Putin in Geneva in June 2021.
Trump and Putin sat for the last time in 2019 at a meeting of the G20 Summit in Japan during Trump’s first mandate. They have spoken on the phone several times since January.
