The commemorative shields of World War II and other high -value articles were stolen from an office of the general director of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) parks in the iconic hall Frere Hall of the city, arose on Saturday.
The building, one of the most emblematic of the metropolis, was completed in 1865 and a restoration project financed by the United States was completed last year.
A first information report (FIR), available with Dawn.comIt was presented under section 380 (robbery in housing) of the Pakistan Criminal Code by the deputy director of the KMC Parks Department at the Artillery Maidan Police Station on July 7.
“The suspects have stolen a DVD player, a speaker, five commemorative shields from World War II and a precious cable copper of shield,” said the first.
He said the articles were stolen by unidentified thieves, who broke the windows and entered Frere Hall during Ashura’s holidays.
The plaintiff said that the DG Parks office had been closed on July 4 at 10 pm for Ashura’s holidays. When the office reopened on July 7 at 9 am, employees discovered that the office window was broken.
“During a search, we discovered that a DVD player, a speaker, five monuments of World War II and a beautiful coat cable copper were stolen by unidentified people,” said the plaintiff.
Later, the South Deputy Inspector (DIG) Syed Asad Raza said Dawn.com that a suspect was identified in relation to theft and the police was trying to bring it to question it.
“A contractor, under whose supervision the articles stolen in the room were maintained, has also been summoned for research,” he added.
Dig Raza said that DG Parks has not yet provided more information, although the plaintiff declared that he would visit the police on Monday.
“Concerted efforts are being made to arrest the suspect and recover antiques,” said the excavation, adding that the police are reviewing CCTV images for the possible identification of thieves.
“In addition, the local scrap market within the jurisdiction of the Frere Police has been verified and the informants have been commissioned accordingly,” added Dig Raza. “An advance is expected in the case very soon.”
Thefts are very common in Karachi.
In May, an alleged thief was shot by the security guards at the Keamari place while trying to steal a transformer mounted on the post.
Jackson’s police said about five to six thieves tried to steal the transformer in the courtyard of Pak Shaheen near the Ziauddin hospital. The PMT fell on the floor, which created a loud noise and caught attention.
