The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, has so far offered zero concessions to end the war, or President Donald Trump has asked him any. Meanwhile, Washington has suggested that Ukraine will have to deliver Russia to Russia, while renouncing not only the hope of joining NATO but also to any Washington security guarantee.
Putin, on the other hand, has requested only a high fire that is equivalent to a surrender by Ukraine, includes kyiv who renounces the control of the regions that Russia has occupied, around 20% of the country, and agrees to abandon its NATO aspirations.
On Tuesday, other voices in Moscow were cautious or directly hostile towards the agreement that Rubio, national security advisor Mike Waltz and the Ukrainians in the Saudi city of Jeddah. These figures in favor of the war fear that a high fire allows Ukrainians to regroup and reorgan, something that Ukrainians also fear the Russian army.
The “high fire agreement will not work,” said Alexander Dugin, an ultra -nationalist philosopher sometimes known as ‘Putin’s Rasputin’ thanks to his long beard and links with the Kremlin.
“Putin will not accept fire as Russia often said clearly before, without discussing the conditions of solid peace. Trump this time is wrong, ”Dugin wrote in a publication about X.
Rubio and Waltz emerged with the proposal after about 10 hours of conversations with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andrii Sybiha, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov and Andriy Yermak, the head of the Volodymyryryry Presidential Office Zelenskyy.
They agreed to resume the flow of American aid and exchange of intelligence to Ukraine. Ukrainian officials also said they would be willing to enforce the immediate fire of 30 days.
Rubio said it would depend on Moscow if to accept.
“We are going to tell you that this is what is on the table: Ukraine is ready to stop shooting and start talking. And now it will depend on them to say yes or no, ”the Secretary of State told reporters on Tuesday. “If they say no, unfortunately we will know what is the impediment to peace here.”
Even if Putin agreed with this interim detent, there is an abyss between the positions of Russia and Ukraine, which wants security guarantees before signing a high fire with a giant neighbor who has violated the past agreements.
