Who is Shane Devon Temura? What we know about the NYC shooting suspect

A Nevada man who recently led the country to New York and has a mental health history is accused of entering a Manhattan building with a rifle and opening fire on Monday night, killing four people, police said.

Shane Devon Tamura, 27, entered 345 Park Ave. in Midtown, just after the end of the business on Monday armed with an M4 rifle and opened fire in the lobby, and again on the 33rd floor, before finally committing suicide, said the New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch.

The authorities have said they are working to determine a reason for the attack.

“According to our partners of application of the law in Las Vegas, Mr. Tamura has a documented mental health history,” Tisch said. “Its motives are still under investigation.”

The 36 -year -old Didarul Islam officer, who worked in a security work in the building, was one of the four people killed in the attack. The other victims have not been identified.

Suspicious had driven throughout the country

Tamura has a direction from Las Vegas, and the BMW of which he left in Manhattan is registered for him in Nevada.

Within the vehicle, the researchers found a rifle box with rounds, ammunition magazines and a loaded revolver, Tisch said.

Recorded medications were also found, Tisch said. She did not say what kind of medication or her purpose.

Tamura’s vehicle was recently driven throughout the country, authorities said.

He passed by Colorado on July 26, then Nebraska and Iowa on July 27, and it was in Columbia, New Jersey, recently like 4:24 pm on Monday, the day of the shooting, and entered New York City shortly after, Tisch said.

California school teammates, the coach are surprised

Tamura attended high school in southern California, where he was a soccer player, according to his former teammates, who said they were surprised to know that he was suspected in the shooting.

“You would never have thought that violence was something you would associate with him,” said former classmate Caleb Clarke. “Everything he said was a joke.”

Tamura had transferred to Granada Hills Charter School in Granada Hills, a neighborhood in Los Angeles, in 2015 when he was a last year student, from a school in Santa Clarita, said Clarke.

Clarke said the couple lost contact but recently reconnected through social networks and that Tamura worked in a Las Vegas casino.

Former coach Walter Roby said that Tamura was a talented corridor and “a great player” who was really elusive, really agile. “

“He entered, worked hard, kept his nose down,” Roby added. “He was a quiet, well educated, very trained child. Whatever necessary to do, he would.”

Roby said he was surprised that Tamura was suspicious of carrying out a mass shooting.

“I’m impressed at this time,” he said.

A former teammate from Granada Hills, Anthony Michael Leon said that he and his old football friends have sent text messages disbelief since they learned that Tamura was identified as the gunman.

“This is so shocking,” said Leon, 25. “I tell you that this was one of those children who never exercised bad energy or a negative attitude.”

He said that Tamura was in the virtual program of the school, which meant that he took classes online and that he was only in school a couple of times a week outside the football season.

But Tamura stood out in the field and led mainly with the example, Leon said.

“I was quiet, but when I really talked, people listened to,” Leon said.

Leon said he remembered Tamura winning honors of all conferences, but Tamura did not seem to house ambitions to play at the University or NFL.

“I met so many children in high school that made it clear that this was all they wanted to do,” Leon said. “I never got that of Shane.”

Why this location?

Tisch said the surveillance video showed that the shooter left a black double -stamping BMW while wearing an M4 rifle.

“The images of the building security chamber show that the shooter enters the lobby, turns right and immediately opens fire against a New York Police officer,” Tisch said.

Then, the gun shot a woman to cover himself behind a pillar and shot others before taking an elevator to the 33rd floor, where he opened fire again and killed another person, he said.

A motive in the shooting was under investigation.

“We are working to understand why he went to this particular location,” Tisch said.

The tenants of the building where the shooting took place include the National Soccer League, Rudin Management, KPMG and Blackstone.

The police officer and another man were killed, like two women, Tisch said.

The survivor who was shot was a man who was in a hospital in critical condition but stable on Monday night, Tisch said. Four others suffered minor injuries while trying to flee, he said.
