NEW DELHI: Rekha Gupta It has been announced as the next Prime Minister of Delhi, which marks the return of the BJP in the national capital after 27 years.
Rekha, a MLA for the first time, won the constituency of Shalimar Bagh in the elections of the Delhi assembly, defeating Bandana Kumari of AAP for 29,595 votes. This victory marked the end of the fortress of a decade of AAP in the area.
He began his political trip in 1992 through Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at Daulat Ram College, University of Delhi. In 1996-97, she became president of the Student Union of the University of Delhi (DUSU), where she worked on students’ subjects.
In 2007, Gupta was chosen as Councilor for North Pitamura, where she helped improve local facilities such as libraries, parks and swimming pools. He also launched the “Sumedha Yojana” to support economically weaker female students in higher education. As president of the Welfare and Child Development Committee of women, she directed initiatives for the empowerment of women.
Gupta also served as general secretary of BJP Mahila Morcha in Delhi and in his National Executive Committee.
Rekha, 50, was born in 1974 in the Nandgarh village, located in the Jind district, Haryana. His father held an officer in the State Bank of India. In 1976, when Rekha was only two years old, his family moved to Delhi. She completed her primary education to higher education in Delhi from then on.
Of the 70 electoral districts of the Assembly, BJP won 48 seats, while AAP said only 22. AAP’s key leaders, including former principal minister, Arvind Kejriwal, former Deputy Minister Manish Sisodia, and other prominent figures, lost their seats . Kejriwal, which represents New Delhi for more than 10 years, was defeated by PARVESH VUTIMA of BJP by 4,089 votes.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had praised the historical victory of the BJP, thanking the people of Delhi for their support and criticizing the governance of AAP. He described the result as a clear mandate for development and confidence about “ostentation, anarchy and arrogance.”
While several AAP leaders, including sisody and Satyendra Jain, Lost, Atishi managed to retain his seat in Kalkaji. Modi promised to guarantee a good government, committing to make Delhi a better city for its residents.
AAP, who dominated in the 2015 and 2020 elections, suffered a significant blow, with BJP recovering Delhi control after 27 years.
