Four people, including a police officer from New York City, were killed on Monday night when a man armed with a rifle entered a high -rise corporate building in Manhattan and opened fire.
The other murdered victims were executive of the Blackstone investment management company, an employee of the real estate firm Rudin Management and a security guard.
The shooting occurred around 6:30 pm in the lobby of 345 Park Ave. in Midtown. The authorities said the security video showed the suspect, Shane Devon Tamura, leaving a double -stamping car with an M4 rifle.
He entered the building and immediately opened fire “in a New York Police officer,” said New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch. Then he shot a woman who covered himself behind a pillar and shot others before taking the elevator to 33RD Floor, where he shot and killed another person, according to the authorities.
Tamura, a 27 -year -old Nevada who recently led throughout the country, then committed suicide, the authorities said. Tisch said he has a “documented mental health history”, and in his vehicle, the researchers found a loaded revolver, a rifle case with rounds, ammunition magazines and some prescription medications.
The researchers are still investigating why Tamura pointed to the building. The officials familiar with the investigation told NBC News that he left a note that hinted that his mental illness can be linked to chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE, of having played football. Brain disease is linked to repeated blows on the head.
The NFL is one of the tenants of the building.
However, the authorities indicated that it is still early in the investigation and that a reason is still clear.

Wesley Lepatner
Blackstone identified one of the victims killed as Wesley Lepatner. He joined Blackstone in 2014 after spending more than a decade in Goldman Sachs. Lepatner, 43, was the senior managing director and also a member of the Blackstone Real Estate Investment Committee, according to the company’s website.
It served in the meetings of the Metropolitan Art Museum, the New York UJA Federation, the Yale University Library Council and the Abraham School Joshua Heschel, where his son attends the seventh grade.
She was also a member of the Governor Advisory Board of the National Association of Real States Investment Trusts.
Heschel School described Lepatner as “a leader and father exclusively brilliant and modest, full of wisdom, empathy, vision and appreciation.”
“There are no correct words for this unfathomable moment of pain and loss,” said a school representative in a statement on Tuesday.
The school said that “the world did, and all the institutions that played, including the Heschel school, a better place.”
“We are all diminished today by its absence,” reads the statement.
Didarul Islam
Didarul Islam, a 36 -year -old immigrant from Bangladesh, was acclaimed as a hero who “made the last sacrifice.”
“I was doing the job we asked to do,” Tisch said at a press conference on Monday night. “It endangered.”
Islam had been with the New York Police for almost four years, assigned to 47th Enclosure in the Bronx. He was working out of service as a security guard when he was shot.
“He was doing what he does best and all members of the Police Department carry out,” Mayor Eric Adams said. “I was saving lives. I was protecting New Yorkers.”
Tisch said Islam was the father of two young children and was waiting for a third son with his wife. Adams said he told the Islam family that “he was a hero, and we admire him to put his life at stake.”
His cousin said that Islam was a “very pious person” who would regularly attend the mosque to worship.
“It is a very pleasant guy and its behavior is very good,” said Muhammad Mainul Islam to NBC New York. “I really miss him.”
ALAND ETIENNE
The International Union of Employees of the 32BJ Service reminded Aland Etienne, 46, as “a dedicated security officer who took their work duties extremely seriously.”
“This tragedy speaks of the sacrifice of security officers who risk their lives every day to keep New Yorkers safely and our buildings,” said Manny Pastreich, president of 32bj Seiu, in a statement on Tuesday.
“Every time a security officer puts his uniform, he puts his lives on the line. His contributions to our city are essential, although often not appreciated,” he said.
Pastreich called Etienne “a New York hero.”
RUDIN management employee
Rudin Management, the real estate company that has 345 Park Ave. and is headquarters there, confirmed that one of its employees was killed. The employee has not been publicly appointed.
“The Rudin family and all in our company are devastated by the meaningless tragedy yesterday,” said the company in a statement on Tuesday. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the wounded and lost last night, including our precious colleague from Rudin, a brave police officer from New York City, a beloved Lobby Security Guard and an employee of a tenant company.”
“As New Yorkers, we stop shoulder shoulder in front of this hatred, we cry with the loved ones and loved ones of the lost, and pray for the complete recovery of the injured.”
