Nueva Delhi: The Assam government announced Sunday that single parents working in the state government departments will now be eligible for child care license. Prime Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared this decision through a position in X.
“Sometimes life can take unexpected twists, and a man may have to be the only caregiver for a child. If such a scenario it ever arises for our state government employees, we have it covered,” said Himanta in an X publication.
In addition, he said: “From now on, we will give child care permission to single parents to take care of their children.”
The child care license (CCL) allows employees to take a free time to take care of their children without losing salary or occupational safety. Previously, in Assam, this license was granted mainly to government employees for reasons such as a child’s disease, exams or other essential needs.
According to the new directive, male government employees who are single parents, including widowed, divorced or single parents, will also be eligible. The license applies to children up to 18 years and can be used for biological children, adopted or legally dependent, according to a report by the IANS news agency.
Eligible single parents can now take CCL for up to two years (730 days).
The license can be taken in multiple phases, but no more than three times in a calendar year.
In addition, government employees with custody of “disabled” children will also be covered by updated policy.
