A group of good Samaritans joined authorities this week to save an elderly woman trapped under her car in Lawerence, Massachusetts.
Captured on video Thursday afternoon shortly after 1 p.m., Zoa Mendez, 73, was making flower deliveries when her car, accidentally left running, hit her.
Several witnesses say they heard screams and screams calling for help, capturing the attention of the entire neighborhood. That’s when more than a dozen people, many of them strangers, ran to help.
“She was screaming for help and grabbing my leg and I was just trying to lift the car,” Elvis Burgos said.
Yanet Minaya, an employee who works at a nearby corner store, remembers seeing several officers along with strangers lifting the vehicle halfway to help remove the woman.
“They were just lifting the car, almost halfway up,” he said. “Many people helped her. “I don’t know what would have happened if she didn’t have anyone to help her.”
In addition to the team effort, others say nearby drivers stopped to make sure Mendez was okay.
She was eventually saved and rushed to the hospital with leg injuries, although authorities say she is expected to recover.
