The meeting has caused controversy and has caused strong criticisms of Kuki organizationswho see the commitment as an affront to their continuous struggles for justice and security in the middle of Ethnic tensions in manipur.
Manipur has experienced disturbances since February when the administration led by BJP initiated an eviction campaign that seemed to highlight a particular tribal community. Although this action caused demonstrations, they were not as extensive as those that exploded on May 3, after the instructions of the Superior Court of Manipur to the state of acting on a proposal of a decade that recommended the classification of the programmed tribe (ST) for the non -tribal population MEITEI.
And more recently, on September 7, violence between the ethnic communities in Kukis and Méitei War in the Jiribam district of Manipur broke out. In the midst of violence, Manipur Prime Minister Biren Singh resigned.
