Nueva Delhi: Dilip Ghosh on Friday threatened to “drown” a protester woman who faced the former head of the Bharatiya Janata (BJP) party of Bharatiya (BJP) on the inauguration of a road recently built in Kharagpur.
The incident took place in the Kharagpur Room No. 6, where Ghosh arrived to inaugurate the concrete path. Upon arrival, a group of women surrounded him, questioning his absence during his mandate as a member of Parliament.
“Where have you been all this time? We never saw you even for a day when you were MP. Now, after our councilor (Pradip Sarkar de Trinamool) has built the way, are you here?” The former Lok Sabha member was asked, according to PTI news agency.
Ghosh, who did not remain silent, said the protesters were supporters of the ruling Congress of Trinamool.
He replied aggressively, saying: “I have given the money for this (way); it is not your father’s money! Go and ask Pradip Sarkar about it!”
The argument intensified quickly, with one of the women replicating: “Why mention our father? You were a deputy!”
To this, the politician replied: “I will bring to his fourteen generations! Don’t shout like that, I will drown you. I have given money to my Mpad Fund during my mandate as a parliamentarian.”
As the situation threatened to get out of control, the security staff of the BJP leader, together with the party workers, intervened.
The Police Station of the City of Kharagpur also arrived at the scene.
However, the protests intensified when the women surrounded the Ghosh car, and many saw the vehicle hitting.
Finally, Ghosh had to leave the area.
‘Why was Ghosh to inaugurate the way?’
Local councilor Sarkar, a former MLA of Kharagpur, condemned Ghosh’s actions.
He said: “He (Ghosh) is no longer a parliamentarian, so why went to inaugurate the road? The municipality completed the work on the road because it is a low area. It was there and lost the stirrups, lacking respect for women by raising their parents!”
Sarkar added: “I wasn’t there, but even insulted my father. He called the working women of 500 rupees. He should apologize. I condemn his comments. Such language is improper of a former deputy.”
‘Opportunists who protest 500 rupees’
Meanwhile, speaking with journalists, Ghosh said the protest was “politically orchestrated” by the Trinamool Congress.
“This is not a protest. These are opportunists that bark for 500 rupees. Those who bark, Dilip Ghosh will raise their parents,” said the leader of the Bharatiya Janata party, who mentioned the monthly amount under Lakshmir Bhandar, the financial assistance scheme of the Western Bengal Government for women.
In addition, he explained: “I had worked for the construction of this section of road with the money of the MPLAD fund that was sanctioned during my mandate. I went there to inaugurate it, but with the instruction of the local councilor, some women came to protest. When Pradip Sarkar was president, it was a MLA. Even now, Kharagpury Municipality has put many of my fonded projects.” “
