Early in the day, Mumbai’s police visited Kunal Kamra’s residence amid controversy over their jokes about Maharashtra’s vice minister, Eknath Shinde. Mumbai’s police had summoned Kamra to appear before them on March 31 to interrogate him.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena official, Rahool Kanal, also warned that Kunal Kamra will receive a welcome “Shiv Sena style” when he arrives in Mumbai. Kamra has been convened by the Police in relation to a case registered against him.
During your performance in habitat Comedy Club in Khar, Kamra referred to Shinde as a “traitor” without directly naming him and performed a parody song addressed to him. After this, Kanal and 11 other Shiv Sena workers were arrested on March 23 for destroying the place where Kamra had acted.
Shinde, who serves as the Vice President of Maharashtra, is also the president of Shiv Sena.
“Anyone who leaves the law is guilty. Kunal Kamra will receive a welcome to the Shiv Sena style when he reaches Mumbai,” Kanal said. “Our stand remains unchanged, as it does,” he added, hinting at the history of the aggressive protests of the party.
In addition, he said that Tamil Nadu police was providing security to Kamra.
Last week, the Superior Court of Madras granted an interim early bond of Kamra, which demanded that it provide a link with the satisfaction of a judicial magistrate in Vanur, district of Villupuram, Tamil Nadu.
Kamra, in his plea, declared that he had moved from Mumbai to Tamil Nadu in 2021 and had been a resident there since then, expressing fear of the arrest by the Mumbai police.
