A video that circulates online shows two brothers who protested by the war in Gaza who took force within the per permanent mission of Egypt to the UN in New York City before being taken to the wives by the police earlier this week.
The brothers were identified by their parents as Yasin Elsammak, 22, and Ali Elsamak, 15, who said they are US citizens
The protester Husam Khaled, who registered the incident on Wednesday, said he ran out of the area after trying to chain the doors of the Egyptian mission, but returned when he noticed that the brothers did not. Khaled said he had asked Yasin, who brought his brother, to film the protest in case he was arrested and lost his phone.
Video Clips Khaled shared with the NBC news program to the brothers who were trapped outside the building and approached to the ground. A spectator is heard asking for help and screams: “They are bringing children inside the building.”
Khaled said that Yasin was beaten in the neck with a chain and that Ali was caught against a wall.
“I was telling them: ‘It was me, I let them go, they did nothing,” Khaled said.
In another video, Khaled, speaking in Arabic, asks one of the men who emerges from the building if he follows the instructions of Badr Abdelatty, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration of Egypt. The man replies that yes.
The tensions have been exploded between the protesters and the officials of the Egyptian Embassy after several Arabic media published a video that, they said, showed a filtered phone call between Abdelatty and Emad Hanna, the Egyptian ambassador to The Hague. The video, which has not been verified independently by NBC News, seems to show Abdelatty instructing diplomatic staff to “grab” and “drag” the protesters inside their buildings and call the police.
The Egyptian mission to the UN, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Egyptian embassies in Paris, Rome and The Hague did not immediately respond to the requests for comments of NBC News.
In Wednesday’s videos shared by Khaled, The officers of the New York Police Department are seen entering the building and then dating the two handcuffed brothers.
Police said Yasin was accused of assault, and a 15 -year -old was accused of assault and strangulation in relation to injuries to two members of the Egyptian mission staff. Two members of the Egyptian mission staff rejected medical attention on the scene, the department said. The police did not appoint the child, however, Ali’s father identified him when the teenager accused.
Yasin had no previous criminal record, police said. The authorities cannot reveal the records of minors.
The authorities can enter foreign embassies and consulates with the permission of the country’s ambassador of that building. They can also respond in demanding circumstances, such as a fight in Progreso, said New York Police spokesman.
The parents of the brothers, who were not in the protest, said that Yasin’s charges were reduced to a minor crime, and those of Ali were retired in the Family Court. They said that Yasin’s throat was swollen and had difficulty breathing after the incident.
“Our children were kidnapped and beaten on American soil, and then the officers of the United States of America came to arrest my children,” said his father, Akram Elsammak.
Elsammak and his wife, Olga, American citizens who emigrated decades of Egypt and Russia, respectively, and raised their children in New York City, said their children joined the protest to ask for help to reach the children in Gaza.
“That is the crime of my children,” said Akram Elsammak. “They say: ‘Let the children eat and have some medicine and have some water.'”
