One of the two people killed in the explosion of the Penylvania steel factory on Monday has been identified as a father who came from a steel family.
Timothy Quinn, 39, was declared dead on the scene, said the Forensic Doctor of Allegheny’s county in the explosion at the Coca Works Plant -Cola de Coca -Cola de USA. UU.
The second person killed in the explosion has not yet been identified. At least another 10 were injured, authorities said.
Quinn was the father of three children, his sister Trisha Quinn told Pittsburgh NBC affiliate, WXPI.
She told the outlet that she drove 45 minutes from Jefferson to the plant in Cloivilon, located 15 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, after news of the explosion around 11 am on Monday.
At first, Trisha Quinn said he could not find his brother and feared he was seriously injured or killed. His partner in the installation told him that he was loaded in an ambulance, and they told him that he could have died.
“The steel factory is not giving families any information, and there is no line of crisis to go,” said Trisha Quinn to WXPI on Monday. “I’ve been talking on the phone from 12 o’clock. We drove from Jefferson, my brother is not here. Families need answers. This is a crisis situation, and we have no one to call to see where our loved ones are.”
Trisha Quinn told The Outlet that his father worked at the steel factory for more than four decades, and asked for better communication with families of workers.
“My dad worked in the steel factory for 42 years, and would be disgusted by what the situation is at this time. Accidents happen but … they need communication with the family,” he explained. “We need answers, we need them now, even if it is not what we want to hear, we need to know something.”
Researchers are working to determine the cause of the explosion.
The US steel installation. UU. Annually produces millions of tons of coca -commercial cool, a type of fuel used in steel production. Almost 1,300 people work on the plant every day.
Allegheny County officials said 10 people were transported to hospitals in the area for “a variety of injuries.” Five were in critical but stable condition, and five were taken to the hospital, treated and discharged.
United Steelworkers hips said on Monday that he has experts in occupational health and safety at the Cloirton factory “evaluating the situation and helping our members.”
“While we are still determining the scope of the tragedy, we are aware that multiple workers receive medical treatment for their injuries. In the next few days, we will work with the appropriate authorities to guarantee an exhaustive investigation and see that our members receive the support they need,” said District 10 of the USW, Bernie Hall, in a statement.
David B. Burritt, President and Executive Director of United States Steel Corporation, said that the “company’s priority is the security and well -being of our employees and the environment”, and “we are working closely with the relevant authorities to investigate the cause of the incident.”
Governor Josh Shapiro is scheduled to visit the Closing Plant on Tuesday afternoon and provide an update on the explosion.
“Lori and I are eternally grateful for the bravery of our first to respond, and we continue to pray throughout the Cloelton community,” Shapiro wrote on X on Monday.
