The president of the United States, Donald Trump, said Friday that he had ordered that two nuclear submarines be positioned in regions near Russia in response to the threats of former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev.
“I have ordered that two nuclear submarines be positioned in the appropriate regions, in case these silly and inflammatory statements are more than that,” Trump said in a publication about Truth Social.
“The words are very important can often lead to involuntary consequences. I hope this is not one of those cases.”
Trump and Medvedev, who is vice president of the Russian Security Council, exchanged teasing in recent days after Trump said Tuesday that Russia had “10 days today” to accept a stop fire in Ukraine or be beaten, along with their oil buyers, with tariffs.
Moscow, which has established its own terms for peace in Ukraine, has not shown any sign that it will meet Trump’s deadline.
