University of Maryland will go green when Kermit encourages grads to show their true colors

Call it the “kermencement” at the University of Maryland, where the graduation stage on Thursday night will have a frog favorite: Kermit the Frog, delivering what will be its first starting address in almost 30 years.

“I’m so humble about that,” Kermit said. “I’m taking this seriously, as serious as a song of singing, dance can take anything.”

Maryland knows Muppets well: its creator, Jim Henson, obtained his title there in 1960 after specializing in domestic economy. He and his wife, Jane, met on the campus in a first -year class of puppets. Henson is honest with a statue at the Campus of the University of the College Park, along with his fellow amphibian.

Kermit’s message to graduates this year? Take the proverbial “jump” to the opportunity and remember that this great step in adulthood does not mean leaving your inner child behind.

“Maybe we are at our best when we allow ourselves to continue growing and learning something new every day,” Kermit said.

“I hope these graduates maintain that sophisticated childhood sense of curiosity, imagination and innovation as they travel through their paths.”
