Trump said last week that Putin’s doubt wants to finish his war in Ukraine, expressing a new skepticism that a peace agreement can be reached soon and hinted more sanctions against Russia.
The progress at the end of the war has seemed difficult to achieve in the months since Trump returned to the White House, and his previous claims of imminent advances have not come true. Trump has previously pressed Ukraine to give up territory to Russia to end the war, threatening to move away if an agreement becomes too difficult.
The European allies of Ukraine consider that their destination is essential for the safety of the continent, and the pressure is now increasing to find ways to support kyiv militarily, regardless of whether Trump retires.
