Rawalpindi: A team from the United Kingdom Transport Department (DFT) and the Civil Aviation Authority has begun the audit of Pakistan aviation security standards.
Pia flights to Europe recently resumed after four years, but the prohibition of flights to the United Kingdom had not yet risen.
The audit would be another step in the efforts to resume the operations of the Pakistani airlines to the United Kingdom, said a spokesman for the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA).
The delegation of four members, who arrived in Pakistan on Monday, is likely to inspect PIA compliance with international security standards, said the spokesman.
The process is expected to lead to flight resumption
The team visited the headquarters of PCAA in Karachi and began the audit process.
The evaluation occurred after months of preparatory meetings between Pakistani and British aviation authorities, said the spokesman.
PCAA has the hope that the result, citing extensive preparations with respect to international aviation security requirements.
The successful end of the audit would pave the way for Pakistani airlines to resume direct flights to the United Kingdom.
The European Aviation Security Agency (EASA) and the United Kingdom DFT banned Pakistani flights in 2020 after the then Aviation Minister said that almost 40 percent of local airline pilots have “false licenses.”
