The British government has distanced the incoming chief from his grandfather’s foreign intelligence service after reports that he was a Nazi spy known as “El butcher.”
Blaise Metreweli, in autumn, will become the first woman to lead the MI6 in her 116 -year history, the British government announced earlier this month.
The Daily Mail The newspaper reported this week that his grandfather Constantine Dobrowolski defected from the Red Army of the Soviet Union to become a Nazi informant in the Chernigiv region of the modern Ukraine.
The newspaper said the German archives showed that Dobrowolski was known as “The Butcher” or “Agent No 30” for Wehrmacht commanders.
“Blaise Metreweli did not know or met his paternal grandfather,” said a spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.
“Blaise’s ancestry is characterized by conflict and division and, as is the case of many with the heritage of Eastern Europe, it is only partially understood. It is precisely this complex inheritance that has contributed to its commitment to avoid conflicts and protect the British public from the modern threats of today’s hostile states, as the next Chief of Mi6.”
The Daily Mail He said Dobrowolski had a reward of 50,000 ruble in him by Soviet leaders, and was called the “worst enemy of the Ukrainian people.”
He also sent letters to the superiors saying that “personally” he participated in “the extermination of the Jews,” added the newspaper.
The Chief of MI6 is the only member appointed publicly of the organization and directly informs the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Metreweli, 47, will be the 18th Chief of Mi6.
Like its predecessors, it will be called “C”, no “M”, since the boss is called in the James Bond films franchise.
