UK, Canada and 23 other countries slam Israel over Gaza, say war ‘must end now’

Israel and Hamas have dedicated themselves to high fire conversations, but it seems that there is no progress, and it is not clear if any truce would put a durable high in the war. Netanyahu has repeatedly stated that expanding Israel’s military operations in Gaza will press Hamas in the negotiations.

In statements to Parliament, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy thanked the United States, Qatar and Egypt for their diplomatic efforts to try to end war.

“There is no military solution,” Lammy said. “The next stop the fire must be the last high fire.”

Hamas triggered the war when the militants broke into southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killing some 1,200 people and taking another 251 hostages. Fifty hostages remain in Gaza, but it is believed that less than half are alive.

Israel’s military offensive has killed more than 59,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health. His count does not distinguish between militants and civilians, but the ministry says that more than half of the dead are women and children. The Ministry is part of the Hamas government, but the UN and other international organizations see it as the most reliable source of victims.
